Stars give Ext 27 bosses the thumbs-up

Last weekend, Boiteko Fuel Tank Services sponsored a tournament, which will be contested by eight teams from the area. The tournament is expected to run until March 24, with games taking place every Sunday at Young Strikers Grounds.

With the area having produced some players who have taken the Premier League by storm, Boiteko managing director Sonny Phuthegang says it is important to keep youngsters busy playing football during weekends.

Now, some Premier League players have come out to support the initiative. Mochudi Centre Chiefs' captain Pontsho Moloi said that though he had only learnt of the tournament through the media, the games should be treated as important.

'Since they are played the whole day, it means they will keep the youngsters away from the streets,' he said.

The Chiefs' skipper encouraged youngsters to take the games seriously because it is through such games that their talent will be spotted. 'We used the same route and there is no short-cut to success,' said Moloi.

Gaborone United's inspirational midfielder Tshepo 'Schoolboy' Molefe concurred. Molefe said most of the youngsters in the area engaged in anti-social behaviour and the soccer games will keep them away from mischief.

He pledged to support the organisers by every means possible. At the time of going to press, the organisers had not yet decided how much the winners would pocket.
