Parties gear for Gaborone ward by-election

Although the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has not released dates for the by-election, the country's political parties have moved into the area and all look set for the fight.

Botswana Congress Party (BCP) publicity secretary Dumelang Saleshando says Diphetogo Maswabi will represent their party in the battle to retain Marulamatse ward. Maswabi retired from the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) after 11-years of service. Lekau and Maswabi were nominated unopposed in their respectively parties.

The BCP has intensified its house-to-house campaigns for this by-election. Meanwhile, BNF Publicity secretary Moeti Mohwasa says his party has not yet identified a candidate for Marulamantsi. In the 2004 general election, the BNF scooped the ward with 494 votes against the BDP's 423 votes. The BCP trailed at 150 votes.
