Are We Eating Poisonous Pineapples?

This comes at a time when the European Union rejected the canned pineapples that were tainted with a known cancer-causing chemical element.
The South African 'Daily Dispatch' reported recently that a shipment of South African pineapples destined for export was rejected after the European Union found excessively high levels of cadmium - a carcinogenic - apparently derived from fertilisers imported from China.

South Africa exports tonnes of fresh and canned pineapples to the European Union every year and the canned fruit is apparently on the shelves in South African and Botswana shops.
