Don B, the creative genius

Don B, as he is called in music circles, has never been afraid to try anything new and you should have been at Lions Park on Saturday night to see just how creative he can be in his dance.

How many of us knew what a good rapper he is? Well, that was exactly what he gave his supporters who were left in awe as he 'composed' a song on stage while the backing band was also playing an impromptu track at the back.

But just as the fans were tearing themselves apart, Don B ordered the instrumentalists to play him his popular track Bana Ba Di-dot com and it was time for serious dancing, which sent everyone into a frenzy, some who had been standing far at the back suddenly pushing forward as they heard some wild screams from those who were nearer the stage.

Fellow band members were left amazed by the blind musician's new dance moves. It was clear that man with a golden voice was out to make up for lost time. He did not have a good show in Molapowabojang a month ago and attributed his dismal performance to flu.

Botshelo was performing at Splash summer festival at Lions Park where he shared the stage with his boss at Dalom Music Production, Dan Tshanda, Patricia Majalisa, Dalom Kids, Matshikos, Cyril and Peacock.

Majalisa was another artiste who proved to her fans what a talented musician she is and that there is no substitute for experience even when it comes to new 'surprises'. She appeared from backstage more like a businesswoman than a musician.
Not the usual orange overalls and skimpy outfits. The veteran vocalist came out in a black stripped two-piece (pants) and jacket like she was just about to give a speech and the outfit made her look different.

But once a pantsula always a pantsula, and within seconds Majalisa had thrown away her nice shoes and jacket on the floor and back to business, dancing before her hundreds of admirers. The all-girl trio Dalom Kids had their chance at celebrity status as well and perhaps their greatest moment came when they dished out the track Keneilwe.

It was only the girls' good voices that got the fans running in cirles,  Thando Zinto, Enock Nkosi, Walter Sithole, Mzizi Madiba and company, had done the job in rehearsing the  song.

It carried the same weight and originality even when the vocals were silent.
There is no doubt that Tshanda is the most popular figure in the band and every time he comes on stage everything comes to climax. However, his performance was constantly interrupted by  sound system failures.

The problem even became worse when Matshikos came to stage and the pop-reggae  outfit only played to finish the schedule with only the bass keyboard coming out while the other pianos were almost silent.

Our own Mercy Magobi, who is reported to be negotiating to sign with Dalom Music, also had a chance at showing why she is currently disco's hottest property and though she could not shake the masses the same way that Botshelo did, she definitely left an impression.

Call them 'strictly disco fans', but they still could not resist the good sounds of Tsaya Thobane when Vomit came on stage as guest artiste.
