The cell phone promotion carries the colours of rejuvenated Vee, who now goes by a military tag, Lietenant General Vee. The cell phone is military green and also has a Vee screen saver, and is loaded with ring tones from Vee's previous music albums. Perhaps most interesting is the fact that the cell phones, which go for P249, come out with an exclusive Vee CD, by the title of Party Animals. The CD cannot be bought from any music shop, or heard on any Radio Station because it comes as part of the Vee pack package.
In an interview with Showbiz Vee said his new six tracks CD is very special. 'They are limited copies, and their availability is tied to the cell phone, which means for my fans to have a taste of the album, they must get the Orange Alcatel phone', said Vee who added that the Alcatel cell phone is stuffed with more musical works associated with him.
As part of the Alcatel and Orange deal, Vee is currently on a countrywide tour promoting the Vee Pack, where songs from the Party Animals are being belted out.
For his part Orange Botswana spokesman Karabo Tlhabiwe said, 'This is an Orange Botswana promotion stimulated with a CD, which is exclusive, having not been released before. This promotion exclusive to Orange will be offered to just under 2000 very lucky potential customers,' Tlhabiwe said. Tlhabiwe also says the CD's runtime is 30 minutes.
'The phone is offered with added elements to celebrate the relationship, which is privy to both parties; Orange Botswana and the Lt General of sounds, Mr. Odirile Sento (Vee), Tlhabiwe said.
'This promotion is exclusive to the Orange shops and most specifically the Orange Botswana Road show, which may be coming to your town: December 1-3 the venue was Ghanzi, December 5-8 the venue was Maun, December 10, the venue was Palapye, December 11-14 the venue will be Selebi-Phikwe December 17-24 the venue will be Francistown.'
MMEGI: This is a first for a Botswana musician indeed, would you say it represents a lucrative offer for Vee?
ORANGE: I must say this is a first for Botswana - largely so for Orange Botswana and for an Artist of great magnitude as Vee. This represents a new dawn of potential offers. We believe and have faith that artists of Botswana have enough pulling power to match any other artist in the world. This move is proof of Orange Botswana's commitment to giving Botswana artists' exposure and creation of an enabling environment for talent development.
MMEGI: How lucrative is this deal for Vee?
ORANGE: The deal, which has been struck here is privy to Vee, Orange and Alcatel group. We are in unison that we will protect this sensitive nature of our agreement. Our objective is to merely open up to the opportunities that lay ahead for local musicians and go beyond the public expectations by being innovative. Orange Botswana is committed to providing the local market with a taste of just what can be done with the resources available and raising the status of our local musicians to a higher level.
