Notwanes fate lies with BFA assembly

Notwane were slapped with a two-year suspension from all football activities for taking football matters to court. The other year was suspended on condition that the club does not commit a similar offence again.

The decision will effectively see Notwane miss out on the 2016-2017 season and will resume football activities in the 2017-2018 one.

Club chairperson, Phillip Tiroyamodimo yesterday said for now their fate lies with the general assembly and hopes that it can reverse the BFA National Executive Committee’s (NEC) decision. “For now really there is nothing we can do except to hope that the general assembly refuses to endorse the BFA NEC decision. There is no where in our structures locally where we can take our grievances so we will just wait for the general assembly,” he said. Tiroyamodimo said for now they have not been able to do anything while other teams are already preparing for next season. “We cannot do anything until after the general assembly because the letter of suspension clearly states that we have been suspended from all football activities. So we are here playing a waiting game until August 14,” he added.

The issue started last year when Notwane dragged the association before the High Court over the registration of former Sankoyo Bush Bucks striker, Morris Ruzivo.

The player was declared a defaulter after FC Satmos protested that his registration was improper. Satmos were awarded three points and two goals.

Notwane then took the matter to the courts following the decision by the BFA NEC not to award them points as well despite Ruzivo having played against them.

BFA NEC at the time explained that Notwane and other teams did not lodge protests and therefore could not benefit. Notwane’s case however was dismissed by the High Court and went onto to appeal the matter where they also lost with costs.
