MAP Drama Group Adapts Frankenstein

The play is about a scientist, Victor Frankenstein, played by Ramin Sabet who was on a quest to impart life on non-living matter, which leads him to trying to wake up the dead. The dead wake up as zombies and end up terrifying the community.

Frankenstein did all this in his lab, which was full of dead human bodies dug from the graveyard.

The play started on a low note with some romantic and humour gestures that led to terrifying horror scenes on stage.

The make up used on those playing zombies was a bit scary. Lighting and sound effects were in line with all scenes of the play. When the zombies attacked, there was lightening and supporting thunder sound effects.

Frankenstein did all this in top secret to the extent that community elders were accused of practising witchcraft, and they were ultimately hanged.

Frankenstein did not succeed in his quest, and was haunted by one of his failed projects. The failed project terrorised the whole community as he went to the extent of killing everyone close to Frankenstein including his fiancée, as he demanded the scientist to change him into a woman.

Thumbs up were given to Rafetse Bogatsu who played the failed project of a monster, which terrorised the community. His performance was striking.

Despite being a horror play, there were numerous humorous moments. There is a scene where members of the community consult a sangoma to chase away the zombies, but in a twist of events the sangoma was chased away by a zombie who proved to have more strength. The MAP crew did not only utilise the stage, but the whole of Maitisong Theatre.  The theatre play was sold out on both Friday and Saturday.
