Culture Spears' Kulenyane grabs double platinum

The group's leader, Kabelo Mogwe, said that they were awarded the Double Platinum Award in recognition of their extraordinary achievement last June by the Replication Technology Group in South Africa.

The company specialises in replicating DVDs and CDs for various musical groups across the world. According to Mogwe, it has always been in the habit of giving gold and platinum awards for best selling CDs.

'They told us it was the first time they had to give a platinum award, a double one for that matter, for a DVD. According to the company, DVDs rarely sell much to warrant an award. It is really an honour that we broke this myth. This shows that we are giving our audience what it wants,' he said.

He said that by the time they received the award they had sold 110, 000 copies of the DVD. The last time they checked, since, he said, the sales stood at 115, 000. Kulenyane, the title song, is about a woman who is cheating on her husband. The man says that I suspect that someone is having an affair with my wife,' and goes on to call this marriage wrecker a Kulenyane.

He paid tribute to their fans both here, in South Africa, Lesotho and other countries for their unwavering support.

'We made it because of all these people. They supported us and bought our music, despite the pirates who continue to plunder our works, our fans continue to be supportive, choosing to buy originals instead of the fakes,' he said.

He said that they intend to sell more copies in their latest offering, Khudu.
The group hopes to tour the country, promoting their new album. Their first stop is on August 29 at Donga BDF camp in Francistown. The following day, the group will go and launch their album at Kasane, the town from which they sprung, from, at Sesheke Club.
