Maitisong Festival official opening thrills arts lovers

The fusion of Mophato Dance Theatre, Sky Blue Hub and Mobini kick started the performances with displayed dance moves. The crews this time came up with an innovative stage set up as dancers were dispersed across Maitisong amphitheatre.

When the audience was still fired up over the crews’s dance, an American poet, Dasha Kelly got the room emotional and quiet with her beautiful poem, which she dedicated to girls, encouraging them to keep their heads up and work hard no matter how harsh the world can be.

Local opera singer, Tshenolo Batshogile serenaded the audience with her melodious voice as she sang a well-known Setswana song, Mmamati. Her high notes left the audience screaming in excitement, while others looked on, amazed by her talent.

Mokgweetsi Skit Kabomo treated the audience to a beautiful setinkane performance.

He played one of his popular songs se ya le mowa while one of the popular jazz musicians, Kabo Leburu made the room roar in laughter as some seemed to their own understanding of the song.

Kelly then returned to the stage with a happier poem, making the lovebirds whisper sweet nothings to each other while others looked at each other with loving stare and smiled shyly.  This time, she talked of how women loved too much and how sometimes they could be fall prey of some men who get in relationships for the wrong reasons.

Mike Sibanda, DJ La Timmy, Leburu and others blew the audience away with their beautiful house mix, which was fused with marimba instruments and jazz sounds.

The crew also put the house on fire, when they did a rendition of South African group Beatenberg’s song Pluto (Remember me), as the audience screamed and danced along. Mophato dance crew did not want the beautiful music to go to waste as they danced their feet off on stage while some audience watched in admiration.

Popular DJ La Timmy sent the crowd into an excitable frenzy when he performed his song, Natsela vuke, showing off his electric dance moves.

The audience was then led out of the ampitheatre to the gardens where Moratiwa Productions treated the audience with jumbo Africa performance. The performance included phatis, contemporary dance, and poem by Timeless Soul, Tsutsube and Huru dances.

These brilliant performances were showcased in limited time but was a peek preview into what the much-awaited Maitisong festival had in store for them this year.
