The player who finished the Botswana Premier League as the top goal scorer has joined South African Premiership side, Platinum Stars on a two-year deal.
Kaunda previously played for Extension Gunners and Prisons XI, but it was only at FC Satmos that his career blossomed.
He said when he arrived at Gunners, he was not familiar with local football and he was still trying to adapt.
Kaunda joined Gunners from Zimbabwean First Division side, Quelaton. He attended trials at the Lobatse side and made an immediate impression.
At the time, Nelson Olebile was the head coach. He said Olebile told him to stay focused because he believed he could help the team. From Gunners, he went to Prisons XI when they gained promotion two seasons ago.
However, Prisons XI stayed just one season in the elite league before they got relegated. It is then that he joined FC Satmos who were making a return to the Premier League after several seasons.
“By the time I joined Satmos, I was now familiar with Botswana football. That is one of the reasons why I did well in my first season.
I was given the platform to shine at Satmos and they were patient with me,” said the be MOBILE Premier League Green Boot winner.
In joining Platinum Stars, he follows in the footsteps of fellow Zimbabwean striker, Terrence Mandaza. Mandaza finished as the be MOBILE Premier League top goal scorer and went onto sign for Stars. Kaunda joins Botswana internationals, Mogakolodi Ngele and Kabelo Dambe who are already in their third season with the team.
