I never quit Zebras - Gabonamong

Gabonamong, is in camp with the squad preparing for the big encounter against South Africa on Saturday. The Supersport United player told Mmegi Sport yesterday that if his time to retire comes he will follow the right channels.

'If I retire, then I'll write a letter (to the relevant people). People might say whatever they want, but I am patriotic and 100 percent committed to the Zebras,' he said when quizzed if he had the team at heart. He said he had been away due to pressing family commitments and had requested to be excused, a statement collaborated by his coach, Stan Tshosane.

Tshosane said Gabonamong had informed him that he had issues to attend to. 'As far as I know, Mogogi had issues to attend to and he informed me. This time when I checked with him he said he was available. I don't know anything about his requirement,' Tshosane said.

A local publication had reported that Gabonamong had quit the Zebras. However, Tshosane will be relived to learn that his sturdy midfielder would be around for some time.It is reported that it took a call from the Minister of Sports, Youth and Culture, Shaw Kgathi to convince Gabonamong to return.

Gabonamong has in the past being unequivocal in voicing his concern over the treatment from the BFA while on national duty.'It took some convincing for Gabonamong to return. He has been promised that things will be run better this time,' a source said.
