During the commemorations of the 50th anniversary of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) over the weekend, he said opposition parties are only good at insulting people in Parliament with the private media acting as the outlet of the abuses.
He said the opposition is not ashamed of telling Batswana lies and writing untruthful things about him in the private media. He lamented that some Batswana believe the nonsense from the opposition parties and vote for them during elections. 'You should respect each other as Batswana and members of opposition parties have lost our culture of botho. You cannot rule a country when you do not have manners.
If you are against the policies of the BDP, you have the right to state your own plan. They think being loose with words is a sign of being the opposition,' said Khama.
He pointed out that the ruling party has been accused of being corrupt but the opposition has no evidence to support their claims. He stated that he has been accused of being a dictator and told the opposition that if they want to experience dictatorship, they should go and live in North Korea, Syria or Iraq. He slammed the private media, saying it is full of scandals instead of news.
Meanwhile, Bobirwa cabinet minister, Shaw Kgathi has said the BDP has an intelligent leader in Khama. He said that the party has shown over the years that it cares for the poor members of the society. He reminded the masses that attended the commemoration that Khama became president at a time when the world economy had taken a knock but he still managed to present a balanced national budget.
BDP chairman, Daniel Kwelagobe said the party has been able to fulfill the promises it made to Batswana when the country gained independence, such as the provision of infrastructure. He noted that Batswana are enjoying democracy and they are able to elect leaders every five years.
