My Star odyssey is over, says Motswafere

Now a brand on his own, Darion Sithole, who goes by the stage name of Motswafere, continues to turn heads wherever he goes. Although he might not have scooped the prize of the competition last year, his My Star participation was both instructive and invaluable. After attaining the third position from the competition, one of the prizes was a sponsorship to go and study a music-related course at any tertiary institution. However, Motswafere declined the offer to do music and is now doing Economics and Public Administration at the University of Botswana (UB).

In an interview with Showbiz, Motswafere said, 'I did not want to go and do a music course then come and have nothing to fall back on.' He states that My Star opened doors for him because it allowed him to put his creativity into practice. He declared that he loves art in all forms hence why he was creative with his performances in the show. 'My Star has played a role in elevating my image because that is where a lot of people got to see me and what I am all about,' he said. Motswafere said that initially when he entered My Star, he wanted to get exposure and show people that there are different talents.

He said that during his time in the competition he was able to give it a twist and turned tables a bit to bring something new. He added that Batswana saw that and appreciated it and watched the show every Sunday in anticipation of what new things he would incorporate into his performance.Motswafere however said that his My Star odyssey is done. He said that: ' I will not audition for My Star again because I have achieved what I set out to do with it.  If I were to go back, it would be as a guest judge or something like that.'  Currently the energetic Motswafere said that he is working on an album called Extended Play. He said that he is almost halfway through and, if all goes well, it should be released sometime in October this year.  He said that so far the songs that are done are the ones which he did alone but is looking forward to collaborations with artists like Zeus, Ozzy -F-Teddy and A.T.I with whom he has a single where they  collaborated. Motswafere added that he would also love to work with local jazz artists as he loves their music and appreciates their talent.
