BAA announces LOC for regional championships

The 13 member committee is chaired by Debswana corporate and social responsibility manager, Barulaganye Mogotsi. Other members are Dickson Gabanakgosi (Protocol), Raj Rathedi (Technical), France Mabiletsa (accreditation), Brian Mosweu (finance), Brian Setang (Logistics), Tiro Lepotokise (Communications) and Thapelo Leboro (marketing). Other members are representatives of the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) and Botswana National Olympics Committee (BNOC).

Mogotsi thanked BAA for showing confidence in them and promised that they will do their best. 'Our commitment to you is hosting a successful event,' he said. Mogotsi acknowledged that hosting the event will come with some challenges, but said they are prepared to turn them into opportunities. He added that the hosting of the event, coupled with other competitions the country has hosted will enhance the country's profile. This, he said, will put Botswana in good stead to host bigger events in the future. Athletes from 14 countries are expected to converge in Gaborone for the regional event.

Botswana National Sports Council has forked out P1 million towards the hosting of the event while Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) is also expected to sponsor the event. The Botswana team is not yet finalised. BAA vice president, Glody Dube said they are still in talks with athletes abroad about their release.
