Kgetsi ya Tsie coordinator denies allegations

Kgetsi ya Tsie is a community-based income-generating women's organisation that was established in 1999 in Lerala Village. Allegations of mismanagement in which the coordinator is accused of firing anyone who asks about cash flow because she accrues all the benefits to herself have surfaced.

Mmipi is also accused of using the property of the organisation for her own ends. According to information reaching Mmegi, at a recent annual general meeting, members asked about the cash flow of the organisation and they could not get any satisfactory answers. It is alleged that there is nobody who is keeping the inventory of the organisation and the coordinator uses that to her advantage.

Mmipi is also alleged to be hiring out the organisation's tents but never gives reports on the money accrued and that she also cuts employees salaries without notification. But in an interview with Mmegi, Mmipi said she was not aware of any complaints against her. She explained that if some people are not happy about some things in the organisation, they should ask her instead of running to the media.

Regarding the absence of the financial report during the last annual general meeting, Mmipi said that the report was the responsibility of the treasurer. She also said that the report was presented but the members refused to adopt it. 'Those allegations against me are not true because whatever I do is a resolution that has been taken by the board and the membership. I am an implementer and I do not make any decisions.

'People who want to know the status of the organisation are welcome to ask. I cannot refuse with information,' she said.In other issues, Mmipi said her organisation is currently doing two projects, being the packaging of Marula fruit and also dealing with orphans and vulnerable children and counselling.

She explained that Debswana Mining Company presently funds the projects while previously United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) bankrolled them. The board chairperson, Kenaope Tantshidi did not answer her phone when she called for comment.
