The event, which not only attracted gospel lovers but people of different interests in music, was held at Abundance City International Church (ACIC) in Gaborone. Even though the show started a bit late, the people who thronged the venue were blessed and mostly entertained with the worship melodies that played while waiting for the artists to perform. The curtain-raiser was none other than Joel Rebaone Keitumele and his band from Jam In Christ.
Keitumele, who already has three albums to his name and mostly known for his off-beat comical jokes and ability to make even a sad person smile, also did not disappoint as he nearly stole the show from Makgalema.Keitumele and his vocally gifted band showered the attendees with music as they lashed out songs from his previous albums including his most loved songs Nana Nina; Roma Nna and some of his offerings, Bonang and Jonana from his next album, before he displayed his dance moves to the crowd, which amazed many. In an interview with Showbiz, Keitumele said he was very honoured to have been chosen to perform at the event as it showed that the church looked at a gospel artist who was capable of representing Botswana well and being chosen showed his great ability.
'This also helps me as Kgotso's fans who did not know about me can now buy my album after seeing my performances,' said Keitumele. The energetic Makgalema, who is not just a musician, but also a church pastor, captured the limelight in 2008 when he wowed gospel lovers and the likes of SA's Lindelanin Mkhize with his deep anointed voice at the I Want to Sing Gospel competition. His career has since then been growing at a fast pace as his albums have been winning awards and selling like hot cakes.
The youngman surprised many with his magical deep voice as he put out his popular songs to the audience who could not get enough of him, starting his performance with his song E Jwale, and later sang Ke Tla Iphelela Ka Thapelo, which had a lot of people on their toes. This was followed by a brief ministering of the word, which touched many souls before he finally took off his jacket and showed his dancing skills while singing Siyabonga Jeso; Mighty Warriors; Jehova O Lefika Laka; Sebakanyana and Ke Batla Jeso Fela. The 26-year-old gospel crooner finished off his performance with a motivating verse encouraging people to walk by faith and later sang the one song that most people were patiently waiting for Messiah, which has been making waves on television. 'I love it when Batswana invite me here as I always have the best time of my life,' he happily pointed out in an interview.
Proceeds from the event will go into buying a plot to build a new church as where the ACIC is currently based is expensive to rent. The master of ceremony (MC) for the night was Pastor Thuso Tiego who also did his part well in entertaining the attendees spiritually.
