US-based studio boss set to visit local artists

He told Showbiz in an interview that although the envisaged visit is private, he has decided to take the opportunity to meet a number of musicians signed to him so they could chart a way forward.

“The most important thing at the moment is to promote them locally before we could go any further. I am trying to grow the Dagee Records empire here in Botswana,” he said.So far some of the artists who are connectedto the label include Shanay, Naxos, Sycho,Quest and Alito. Dagizus said the artists who are mostly in the hip hop genre are going to be signed officially in Botswana and that a press conference would be called in this regard.

The DJ said that he is grateful for the help that Sbale Molebatsi of Supermen Records has done in recording most of his artists. Shanay’shit songs, Get Back Up and About Us were recorded by Supermen Records who had to be in constant communication with the DJ sending him the files for mixing and mastering in the US. Shanay’s songs are currently popular on Yarona fm.“As for other artists, they are still working on their debut albums. We also have a mini studio at Shanay’s house where all Dagee Records artists and acquaintances can go and record.

The main idea is to set up a community recording studio in Gaborone and later extend it to Francistown,” he said.Dagizus, also known as Dallas’ Most Wanted, further said that he had a lot of local artists emailing him samples of their works and that he is going to meet with those that he has selected at a venue to be announced in due course through the local media and social networks. “There is great talent in Botswana and I hope to interact with a lot of artists while there. I will be in the country for two weeks only and I intend to achieve a lot during that short period of time,” he said adding that he would try by all means to give his artists exposure in the local media. Asked why he wants to invest in local talent, he said that he believes that Botswana as a country has much to offerthe world in terms of music. The outspoken DJ emphasised that one of the stumbling blocks the country has is that Batswana are generally a jealous lot and are not ready to empower others.DJ Dagizus is set to visit the country at the end of this month.
