The position fell vacant after the resignation of Justice Dipeba. Dube has been a BAA additional member and coordinator of the southern region. BAA spokesperson, Ipolokeng Ramatshaba said that following the appointment, the region has been informed to elect a replacement for Dube. He said that the clubs have to provide the name before the end of day Saturday.
He said the athletics body has sent Mosa Badubi of Bobonong Junior School to the world cross country championships in Poland. Badubi has dominated the cross-country series since last November. She is the junior national championship. She represented the country in the Southern African Regional Cross Country Championships in Maseru, Lesotho early this month.
Badubi will leave on March 21 and compete on the 24th. She is expected back home the following day.Ramatshaba said they initially wanted to send four junior girls to the event. Meanwhile, Sports View is sending four athletes among them Kabelo Kgosiemang and Isaac Seoke to a competition in South Africa that takes place tomorrow.
Ramatshaba said they have not received any official correspondence from suspended athletics clubs who failed to pay their subscription fee. He said that people must understand that BAA pays the subscription fee to IAAF and BNOC and that the country is suspended if it fails to comply. He said they are expected to meet deadlines and thus their affiliates must do the same.
On a different note, he said that since there are no events on their calendar this weekend, the technical team is expected to go to Lobatse to watch the BISA championships on a scouting mission.
