Police IX Wallop Struggling BMC

The mercy rule is the limit put on the amount of runs scored that automatically ends a game. At 7-0 in the fifth inning, Police had already sealed a win.

But the visitors will take solace in the fact that their second leg defeat was lesser than the first. In the first leg, visiting Police thumped BMC 23-0 with runs scored in the first three innings in Lobatse. And on Saturday, they started off strongly to post another emphatic victory.

Lebogang Mooki put them ahead with a bottom one run before Onalenna Ntibi ensured they went to the next inning with a comfortable 2-0 lead. BMC did not show any signs of bouncing back as their batting was pathetic. Police added another two runs in the bottom of the second inning through Lorato Dibako and Oneile Phalalo. Dibako got a free base before stealing two bases off a Phalalo hit. They completed a double run after Lebogang Mooki's centre field strike.

BMC were out of sorts again in the third inning and allowed the police outfit to stretch their lead in the bottom of the inning. Ntibi and Otsile Moshabe got Police their fifth and sixth runs respectively. Shortly afterwards, Phalalo strike to right-field saw Dibako get her second run of the game. Phalalo then made it 8-0. BMC came close to getting their first run through Sheila Molebatsi but three of their batters were taken out when she was at third base. Ntibi had a chance to put Police further ahead but fluffed it.

That responsibility was handed to Moshabe but she was also tagged out before making any progress. In the top fifth inning, Police needed to avoid conceding any run that would ensure the game went beyond the fifth inning.

Police have won all their three games in the second round against BDF, Panthers and BMC as they fight to make it to the top four. 'We are better than we were in the first round. I think we are coming right and our chances to make top four are quite bright,' said Moshabe.

BMC captain, Juliet Marumo said their biggest let-down is that they do not train together as a team. Most players at the Lobatse side reside in Gaborone. 'Our performance was not too bad but we struggled to bat and get on bases.

We need to score more runs if we are to win games,' Marumo said. BMC have only won one game this season against UB Giants in the first round.
