Alecs Basetang, the BRU development officer said provisional squads for the Under-18 and Under-19 teams will be finalised shortly in preparation for the Africa event to be hosted by Botswana in May next year.
BRU is using the senior school competitions to built a strong team and to develop rugby in the country.
Over 400 rugby players- 250 boys and 150 girls- took part in the weekend development and selection process at the Francistown Stadium on Saturday morning.
Basetang said the idea of hosting senior schools competitions is to develop players for upcoming tournaments and help the national team coaches to instill rugby skills to players at a tender age.
'This is aimed at developing skills from grassroots,' said Basetang.
'Our intention is to refrain from being supported by independent clubs which are affiliated to BRU when it comes to development of players. Relying on clubs is not the right way of scouting for players for the national teams,' he explained.
On the pitch the players showed character and bravery. The schools that participated in the event are Mater Spei College of Francistown, Livingstone Kolobeng College of Gaborone, Selibe-Phikwe, Delta Waters, Naledi, Nata and Matshekge Hill.
