BBF selects national team

From the tournament, BBF will select players to fly Botswana's flag at the South African Bridge competition next month and the African Bridge Championships in Reunion in May. BBF spokesperson Thatayotlhe Maele told Sport Monitor yesterday that they are processing the shortlist and if possible they will have a camp or trials to select the final team of eight. She said they keep records of players' performances in training and tournaments to help in the selection of the national team.
Meanwhile the federation is still waiting to hear from Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) how many teams will be going to South Africa. Meanwhile, the weekend Open Pairs tournament was a 15-round event contested by about 58 players. The contestants included players from two senior schools and five junior schools.
The tournament was divided into two categories for amateurs and experienced players. In the amateur's category, Moeng College's Jacob Rantsho and Kabelo Solomon were champions and bagged the P400 prize. Their college mates, Kebaidile Busang and Isabelle Phetogo finished second and got P300. The third position went to Denjebuya junior's Waguya Nsoso and Kushata Madzimule who were given P200.
In the experienced category, Dimiar Minwalla and Nancy Minwalla won the P400 top prize followed by Nelson Chaka and Tebogo Kubanje who got P300. Omphemetse Moedi and Gopolang Lhingorani pocketed P200 for finishing third.
