PAC to grill Molale

The Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) intends to summon the Permanent Secretary to the President (PSP) Eric Molale to explain the unlawful transfer of P16 million from the Disaster Management Fund, to establish the Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) during the 2007/08 financial year.

Yesterday, members of PAC took the issue with the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President (OP), Sarah George.'You took the money from the Disaster Fund and transferred it to DIS and you should have corrected it. It cannot be closed. What is happening to this account?' asked Samson Guma Moyo.Moyo further said since Molale is the accounting officer in this matter, he too should be summoned: To this, PAC chairperson Nehemiah Modubule said they would summon Molale.

Meanwhile, the committee reprimanded George for overspending without authority.'You have overspent on special expenditure. What is special expenditure? Who authorised you to overspend?' asked Modubule.George explained special expenditure as part of the money that was used to buy the Vice President's vehicle. This response did not please Modubule who reminded George that his committee takes overspending of public funds very seriously.'You are swimming in dirty waters,' he said. For his part, Moyo cautioned the OP to play an exemplary role as the ministry that evaluates other ministries.
