Tropicana triumph in Seven-Aside tourney

The victorious Tropicana, which was playing against the mighty Scania, won 1-0 emerging as the 2013 champions and Scania came second position at the finals. In the other categories set for the veterans, Macsab Company walked away with a trophy after beating The Voice newspaper 3-2 in the penalty shootouts. The tournament is part of JMS's Parent-Teachers Association (PTA) initiative to raise funds for school activities and had been held annually for over 15 years. In an interview with Mmegi Sport, tournament organiser, JMS Principal Moosa Lambat, said that with the proceeds they have been able to lighten the burden of the school board as they have helped them refurbish the school sports grounds.

'We have been able to also add beauty to the school premises and the classrooms as well as adding extra furniture in some classrooms. Again the funds have enabled us to cater for the visiting schools,' he said.He added that the Seven-Aside tournament has become one of the biggest fund-raising activities in the school.'The participating company teams have an amount of money they are paying as a registration fee. With such fees we are able to continuously take the games to a higher level,' he said. Lambat said that each year the event was getting bigger and better.

'Last year we had 19 teams and this year we had 22 teams from various companies participating,' he said. This year they had reached the maximum number of teams so they could not accept further entries because of limited playing grounds.Furthermore, he said that this year the attendance was low because the event coincided with the BOCCIM Northern Trade Fair (BNTF). Some of the participating teams included Nortex, NatCo, The Voice, Naledi Motors, JMS, Nashua and many others with Nashua being the main sponsor of the tournament.
