Motswana selected into CAF medical committee

Akoonyatse, who is a physiotherapist by training, is the former chairperson of the BFA medical committee. She also sits on the local National Anti Doping Committee (NADO). An excited Akoonyatse said Botswana stands to benefit from her being a committee member because she will be able to influence decisions.She further added that her selection in the committee is a reassuring sign that her efforts are not only recognised locally. 'It is also a sign that women can make it in sports,' she said.  Akoonyatse, who has attended several FIFA and CAF medical congresses, will be on the committee for three years.

This is not the first time that Akoonyatse has been recognised. In 2010, the then Botswana National Sport Council (BNSC) chairperson, Daniel Tau, presented to her the Chairperson's award at the BNSC awards. In 2010, the Bobonong born woman was also nominated for the world top 30 of the Junior Chambers International (JCI) 10 young outstanding persons of the world awards.
