BDP eyes all 57 seats - Balopi

At a press conference to brief the media on the up coming elective congress in Maun, Balopi said the ruling party wants to win all the 57 constituencies. He said in the current state of affairs, the opposition parties are toying with the lives of Batswana, something the BDP will not tolerate.  'In 2014 we are gunning for all the 57 constituencies because we have realised that the opposition is not serious about the lives of Batswana. We appreciate that they are our advisors but currently the opposition is just a joke; so we have to take all the constituencies. Maybe when they come back they would have learnt something,' Balopi said.

He added that the party had to postpone other activities to enable smooth preparations for the July 4-7 elective congress in Maun.He said the party was to hold four big rallies in the Kgalagadi North constitutuency, which is currently under the Botswana National Front (BNF), Sekoma, Shakawe and Mochudi. In Kgalagadi North the BDP was to receive about 400 new members from the opposition, 200 in Sekoma and about 46 from the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) in Mochudi.Balopi said immediately after the congress their party will set the tone for next year's general elections with primary elections, commonly known as Bulela Di tswe.

He dismissed suggestions that factional wars might return to haunt the ruling party, noting that there is a mixture on the lobby lists for the central committee posts. The lobby lists of candidates comprise of people who were traditionally associated with the former warring factions, something which shows how determined BDP members are to serve their party, he noted.'BDP had very settled and cool campaigns for the central committee positions. There are no more factions in the BDP as we are no more looking at the personalities, but at what an individual can offer the party,' Balopi said.
