Caravans not a priority - Sebego

Francistown Regional Football Association (FRAFA) chairperson Jonas Msomi Ikgopoleng recently told an Annual General Meeting (AGM) that the country's football governing body has reneged on its promise.BFA, under the leadership of David Fani, promised to procure caravans for the region. Following the promise, FRAFA approached the Francistown City Council (FCC) to provide an office space at the Francistown stadium, which the council approved.

The idea was to erect a porta camp (caravan) comprising two furnished offices and a conference room as well as a FIFA-donated ablution, he said.'The Regional Committee is now very disappointed to inform you that BFA has made a U-turn and is saying those porta camps are not available and one may wonder where they are and what prompted them to make such a promise,' Ikgopoleng said. Contacted for comment, Sebego said the promise (of caravans) was made prematurely.

He said there are projects that need to be given priority than the provision of caravans to regional associations. In the build-up to the elective BFA assembly late last July, Sebego was quoted as saying: 'I am not promising people caravans or computers, but policy changes, which will ensure football is redefined.' And he still sticks to his philosophy of turning the local football into a profit making enterprise with sponsors coming on board.'We need to be prudent with our expenditure.

Procuring caravans and computers for the regions is not a deliverable undertaking but for now,' said Sebego in an interview. He said there is need to lay a foundation of football from a business perspective.Sebego said his main priority is to get all the domestic leagues funded. The renowned attorney said by the time the idea of caravans was mooted, there were no funds. Now, funds might be there but a new philosophy does not prioritise the procurement of caravans and computers, he said.  He assured that regions would definitely be accommodated in the future.
