Zim woman jailed for obtaining Omang

Thembinkosi Ncube was found guilty by Magistrate Dumisani Bagopi of applying for an Omang in 1999 in Francistown claiming to be a Motswana. Bagopi found that Ncube gave information she knew to be false. Before delivering judgement, the magistrate said he had considered various factors, including the fact that Ncube was a first offender and she did not deny the charge.

He said the court looked at the reasons she gave for committing the crime. She said she was advised to commit the crime by her late husband. 'But we consider that as a reason which is not a legal justification to commit such a crime,' said Bagopi. She was jailed for three years, two of which are suspended.
