Tonota, Kazungula case referred to DC

Setlalekgosi Gate, acting First Division North League chairperson presided over the matter last Thursday night in Francistown. First Division North League committee had also received reports from both the match commissioner, Khomela Khomela and the referee, Goodman Kenneth jointly prepared with his two assistants, Michael Vakacha and Kagiso Othusitse.

Gate announced that the league committee cannot deal with their case because it involves 'serious elements of violence.'We do not deal with issues of violence at this level. Therefore your matter has been referred to the DC for adjudication,' said Gate.He further declared Kazungula Young Fighters as the winner of the game saying the game was not aborted. Gate said by the time the alleged violence on match officials ensued, the 90 minutes duration of the game had already elapsed with the home side leading 2-0.

Initial reports were that the game was aborted because of the violence that ensued. However, both reports by the match commissioner and the referee vilified suggestions that the game was aborted with three minutes before regulation time.In their reports, both Khomela and Kenneth said the game ended with the score line at 2Ð0 in favour of the home side. The game was played at the Kasane Prisons Grounds in Kazungula.'In the 91st minute, Tonota FC was awarded a corner kick which Kazungula successfully defended and immediately launched a counter attack. The home managed to find the back of the net following the counter attack,' Khomela said in his report.Khomela said the development did not go down well with the Tonota family and its skipper, Tshireletso Salefoma rushed to Kenneth arguing that the goal was not legitimate. The whole Tonota bench then invaded the pitch and surrounded the referee.

'Salefoma the Tonota FC bench was threatening and hurling insults at the referee before their captain tore the referee's shirt in the process,' he said. Soon after the incident, it is said the referee was summoned to the touchline by the second assistant, Othusitse. The referee and the second assistant had a little chat before Kenneth turned to a Kazungula player, Manyima Seyoka and flushed a red card for allegedly using insulting language.Seyoka then ran after the second assistant referee. He then started pelting stones at the second assistant referee before his teammates managed to restrain him, he noted.
