Local DJs Jostle for Fete de la Musique

Many music lovers were on hand to show the audience what they can do on the dance floor when a skilled and talented DJ rocks the place. The DJs who all seemed confident that they would walk away with the grand prize (performing at Botswanacraft) could not wait to show the audience their skills that had many flocking to the dance floor.

The night of fun, as it was called, turned out to be a success as both men and women did their stuff. The proffessional DJs were easily distinguished from the amateurs in the 15 minutes they were each given to prove themselves. DJs Propaganda and Bigl, real names Aleksey Kovacevic and Lesego Booja, started the show in an electrifying mood, leaving the audience begging for more.

For young and vibrant David Motawana, aka DJ Di of Di clothing line collection, stealing the audience's attention seemed easy as he successfully kept the few revellers, who were present then, off their seats, as they could not stop dancing to every beat he played. With his talent and skills DJ Di, who has left a mark on the South African scene, left a lasting impression on his newly found fan-base on Friday as the audience could not stop screaming and dancing in excitement.

One of the country's best and popular DJs, Khan Ali Athman, who is known by his stage name DJ Ozzy The Great, also proved popular with the audience. Even though he did not play as expected, his fans seemed not to notice a thing as they were carried away by their idol's tunes and stage antics.Nonofo Mokwatso, popularly known as DJ Rass (the commercial monk) did not want to be outdone either, as he unleashed his talent, drawing the swelling crowd to the dance floor.

Amongst the three female DJs, Laone Moala, aka DJ Cupid - who was determined to show other women that she was also capable of outshining her male opponents,  kept the audience on their feet throughout the session. She easily outshone her female opponents DJ Lady Lotus (Mellisa Cobber), who played beautiful raga and dance hall tunes and DJ Leah (Aparna Arvind), who gave a rather lacklustre performance to the disappointment of the audience. Even though Cobber's music was appealing, her technical errors seemed to turn many people off as some just stood like sentries on the dancing floor.

According to former My Star contestant Kelvin Kesupile, judging was based on level of skill, creativity, crowd-motivation, music diversity and overall personality.DJs Di and Rass won the right to perform at Fete de la Musique each collaborating with the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) Band while DJ Ozzy The Great will also perform at the same function but solo. Even though DJ Cupid was among the top DJs, unfortunately she could not attend the show. They walked away with goodies as everyone went home satisfied with the outcome. Other DJs present were Scratch, TIC (African Drum Nerd), Tumelo 'Stuxx Underground' Mokone, Yung Mular, Dustin, Foxxy and Saot.
