NED Councillor Praise SHHA

With houses being built all around NED, councillors could not stop gushing about how SHHA has done wonders in the district. In an interview with The Monitor, Siviya councillor Bakani Badziili said that he is grateful that the residents are using the SHHA initiative to build homes for themselves.'This initiative is mostly benefiting people who are earning salaries of P3,000 and below. Mostly the low income earners have taken this initiative seriously and most of the residents now have decent homes,' he said. Badziili said that each applicant is given P45,000 to build a house but they have to bring a quotation of all the things they will require to complete the house.

'The houses being built depend on preferences of individuals and some built two to three-bedroomed houses,' he said. Special nominated councillor, Ndinani Makhulela, said that NEDC is benefitting a lot from this initiative and that the district has become known for its promotion of SHHA projects.'Had it not been for shortage of water that we always experience in this district, we would have been far by now,' she said.NEDC chairperson, City Kealotswe, said that since 2009 the district has undertaken 181 projects under the Turnkey Programme at a sum of P11,280,000.

'Currently there are 12 projects that are still on-going and are all at completion stage. We also have a waiting list under this programme of 168 applicants of which 103 are from Tati West while 65 are from Tati East,' he said.Furthermore, he said a total of 292 houses have been funded under Home Improvement Programme at a sum of P9,303,500 since 2008.

'At the moment there are 31 on-going projects of which 21 are at finishing stage. Nine are at roofing level while one is at super-structure level of completion,' Kealotswe said. He also said they have a waiting list of 42 applicants of which 19 are from Tati West Constituency while 23 are from Tati East Constituency.'NED residents are much aware of this low income housing scheme provided by the government and they are fully utilising it for decent living,' he concluded.
