Mascom keen on extending contract- BFA

Mascom entered into a two-year deal with BFA last year with an option to renew for another year, but are yet to exercise the option as the deal came to an end this year. Speaking at the awards ceremony of the Mascom Top 8 Cup at the GICC on Wednesday night, Sebego said the association had enjoyed a good relationship with Mascom and they hope to get into another agreement.

Mascom stepped in at the same time Sebego took office from David Fani and the new president declared the successful staging of the cup as one of his major tasks after taking office. He acknowledged that the cup, especially the second edition had some challenges, in particular the TV broadcasting issue, which nearly spoiled the fun. Sebego said it is critical now to sit down with all the stakeholders involved to settle the broadcasting issue before next year edition of the cup.  For his part Mascom Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jose Viera Couceiro also expressed satisfaction with the staging of the competition.

He said the top eight cup has helped intensify competition in the league as teams no longer play to win the league, or avoid relegation, but there is a stiff competition to finish in the top eight so that they have a chance of playing the prestigious cup competition.  Standing at P1 million, the prize money for the cup is equal to that of the league. Couceiro said through the cup, they have gone a step further to recognise the country's legends of the game, something that has been left behind. He said they remain committed to developing soccer in Botswana and that they are proud of the partnership they had with the BFA.
