Bowls association to walk for cash

 

BBA spokesperson John Gaborutwe explained to Mmegi Sport that the initiative is meant not to only raise funds for the national team, but also to enable bowlers to celebrate their achievements.  He said that proceeds from the Francistown event tomorrow would go towards sponsoring the national team which will take part in the September 8-14 African States tournament to be held in Windhoek, Namibia, and World Champion of Champions in Christchurch, New Zealand, next November.

The women's squad comprises Tirelo Buckley (Jwaneng Club), Mpopi Pelemo (Jwaneng Club), Obopile Mosimanyana (Francistown Club), Lillian Tebele (Francistown Club), Bonnie Fox (Gaborone Club), Pauline Lekone (Gaborone Club), Nelly Senna and Tshegofatso Siamang of Phikwe Club respectively.The men's team is: Kitso Robert (Orapa), Ofentse Moleleki (Orapa), Gaborutwe (Phikwe) Diane Senna (Phikwe), Remmy Kebapetse (Jwaneng), Marks Mantsima (Jwaneng), Timothy Morton (Gaborone) and Kabo Gaboutloeloe. Gaborutwe said BBA would have a public and media bowls day at the same venue.  He explained that during the event, members of the public andthe media will play demonstration games with seasoned bowlers to havefirst hand experience of the bowls game.

The programme will start with a walk from the Galo mall to Francistown club.  He said that at the club there would be a press conference and the announcement of the national team.Gaborutwe said the African States Tournament team would play a practice match against the Rest thereafter.The Windhoek tournament will be used as a qualifying event for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
