Mohwasa might U-turn on quitting

Inside sources said some party leaders, among them president Duma Boko, have pleaded with Mohwasa to consider defending his position. The BNF firebrand announced last month that he intends to quit his position in the central committee in Gantsi next month citing personal commitments.

Although he did not explain in detail, Mohwasa is said to be of the view that his close involvement in party activities has disturbed his businesses.Mohwasa is also positioning himself for the Selebi Phikwe West Parliamentary seat and is said to hold a view that juggling both the central committee position and preparing for the general elections may be unbearable for him. However senior party members reportedly want Mohwasa to seek another term as publicity secretary arguing that he still has a lot to offer the party.

Mohwasa is said to be considering contesting for the position of international relations secretary since it is less demanding. That is if he reneges on his decision to contest central committee elections. Mohwasa declined to comment on the rumours.BNF deputy secretary general Shampoo Shadikong yesterday told this publication that the party is not aware that some members are persuading Mohwasa to change his mind.

'However, just like any other party member we believe Mohwasa can add value to the party,' Shadikong said yesterday.BNF leader Boko was not available for comment. Mohwasa said Boko was outside the country. Mohwasa is among highly revered figures at the BNF having spent all his life in the party. At one point, he served as BNF vice chairman in 1991 and later chairman of the Selebi Phikwe constituency youth committee in 1992.
