It's make-or-break as TAFIC hold AGM

The club's leadership and supporters have in the past year or so been deeply divided over the privatisation of the club. Supporters and the Humphrey Nawa chaired committee have been pulling in different directions regarding the manner in which the red-and-white striped outfit is being run. A verbal war between supporters and the committee has been raging for a long time.

The committee has been accusing supporters of showing little support towards the club's cause while the fans have accused the leadership of turning the club into their personal property. And tomorrow, it is a make-or-break meeting for both parties. The TAFIC family is expected to introspect and discuss the affairs of the club and chart the way forward. Confirming the meeting yesterday, Nawa said tomorrow's AGM is an elective one and urged TAFIC supporters to come in large numbers to help resolve outstanding issues and ensure club growth.

Nawa could not be drawn into stating whether he would be seeking re-election. According to Nawa, office positions are unimportant at this stage because 'there are most pressing issues than leadership posts'. He said his committee was given a mandate to facilitate the transformation of TAFIC into a viable business entity - and that has been accomplished. 'We have got a baby by the name TAFIC (Pty) Ltd born out of the facilitation process we conducted over the past three years,' said Nawa when contacted for comment.

The AGM provides every concerned stakeholder with a grand opportunity to help find an enduring solution to the tribulations bedevilling the club every season, he said. 'What do we do with the baby? Are we killing the baby? Should the baby die, how are we going to bury it? And if we are going back to the old creature (TAFIC as a society club), how are we going to do it?' rhetorically asked Nawa.He said there are people who had bought some shares from TAFIC (Pty) Ltd. Nawa said the shareholders would need explanation and compensation if the TAFIC (Pty) Ltd ceases to exist depending on what happens at the AGM.

Rapula Changana, the TAFIC Supporters' Committee chairperson, also urged die-hard fans of the club, popularly known as Matjimenyenga Boys in football circles, to come in droves to help with ideas that will grow the TAFIC brand.
