The Kgatleng West parliamentary hopeful has told Mmegi that she wants to be deputy secretary general of the ruling party. She is likely to come up against the youthful Bontsi Monare and Malebogo Kruger. As the date for elections approach, party activists are positioning themselves strategically to win positions in the central committee.Dow has become the latest entrant in the battle for control of the ruling party.
It is not clear as to whether she is a spoiler for Kruger or Monare who have shown allegiance to Guma Moyo and cabinet minister, Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi, who are engaged in a high octane battle for the BDP chairmanship. Dow said she entered the race after nomination by the Kgatleng branch.'The decision to contend for the deputy secretary general was made by the branch. We looked at the playing field and I believe I am the right person for the job,' she said. She fancies her chances against Monare and Kruger, arguing that her support on the ground is very strong.
Meanwhile information reaching Mmegi suggests that Dow is facing stiff competition from the former soccer administrator, Tosh Kgotlele in the race to secure the BDP ticket for the Kgatleng West parliamentary seat in the 2014 general elections. Sources say the two sides are already bandying accusations of sabotage. The Kgatleng West seat is currently in the hands of the Botswana Movement for Democracy's (BMD) Gilbert Mangole, who originally won under the BDP banner.
