Accidents increase during President's holidays

 

A total of eight people died in seven of the road accidents this year. Amongst the deceased, five were passengers while three were pedestrians.Two died when a motor vehicle knocked a donkey cart at Dikabeya lands along the Gaborone/Francistown highway. Preliminary police investigations revealed that excessive speed, alcohol consumption and careless driving caused the road accidents.

The number of traffic offenders also dramatically increased from 1,940 last year to 5,499, an increase of over 100 percent in offences such as over-speeding at 1,847 cases followed by driving without a licence at 400 cases.Amongst 458 drivers who were tested for alcohol, 86 were found to have exceeded the prescribed limit.
