Resego Motlhokathari is one of the two new presenters of My Star and Showbiz had a chat with this versatile personality who also hosts two programmes on Duma FM and is a part-time model. 'It was during my graduation party in October last year when I was called to go for auditions and I had to dump everything because I didn't want to miss out. In fact my mother and guests had to call me time and again to enquire about my whereabouts,' says the 23-year-old from Motlhokathari ward in Hebron.
At the audition, hopefuls had to memorise and present a script specially prepared for the auditions. Motlhokathari said the My Star judges were impressed by him and his ability to do his audition in just one take. He said he was not surprised when he was called to attend the second round of auditions. It was at these auditions, however, that he was faced with tough competition from a lot of well-known radio and television personalities who also wished to try their luck.
'I knew that My Star needed only two people and for them to be impressed with me, I really had to offer my best.I did everything in my power to be articulate, focus on the camera as I was required to and tried not to look frightened,' he points out. Motlhokathari says the most nerve-wrecking thing about the second auditions is that they were done in front of an audience of people who were also hoping to be chosen for the job. Fortunately, not long after auditioning, the young man was informed that he had out-done the others and was one of the new My Star presenters. In his new role, Motlhokathari and the rest of the My Star crew will be busy criss-crossing the country in search of new talent for some time before returning to Gaborone for the finals.
Fortunately for the hunky and fashionable presenter, his employer, Mascom is also one of the main sponsors of the show, so being away from work shouldn't be so difficult for him. 'As soon as I knock off on Fridays, I get ready to hit the road to wherever My Star auditions take me,' says Motlhokathari who works as a recruitment and training coordinator at Mascom.
The multi-talented Motlhokathari hosts, The Flight, which is a talk-show on Duma FM on Sundays. He also hosts the Mascom Top 2O, a music show on the same radio station. The young man is also a freelance model who is not tied to any modeling agency in the country.
