JCE results a few days away - BEC

Dr. Serara Moahi told journalists at a media briefing yesterday that the results will be released either this weekend or early next week.

Like the Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) results, the release of the JCE results was delayed due to challenges the BEC had with the new Botswana National Examinations Processing System (BNEPS), which was implemented for the first time last year. Moahi revealed that marking for the JCE was completed in the second week of December. She added that the processing of results started then and continued over the festive holidays, and is expected to be completed end of this week.

Usually, JCE are marked within 17 days, and mark capturing and processing completed within two to eight weeks, she said. The new system, whose anticipated benefits included cutting down on turnaround time due to the automation of most processes, slowed down registration and checking processes due to system bugs and network connectivity problems.

Moahi said time was also a major challenge as they struggled to release exam results because of a change in school timetables. However, she said the BEC has been able to resolve the challenges at each phase of the examinations.  To get ready for this year's examinations, registration processes will start earlier than normal, she said.

Meanwhile, Moahi revealed that in the future, examinations marking will also be computerised.  Currently MALEPA, the web-based application of the BNEPS, is used to capture candidates' registration details, capturing results as well as payment details for various activities carried out on behalf of the BEC.
