In their first press conference of the year yesterday, the BAA executive committee said although they could not confirm some allegations levelled against the athlete, Amos has become difficult to manage. The association said it was not even aware of his whereabouts. The BAA said the star failed to fill an anti-doping form, which reflects the whereabouts of an athlete at a given time.
In addition to allegations that the 19-year bought a car and immediately crashed it, the association gathered that he has not been behaving well owing to alcohol abuse. The BAA told the media that they will call Amos to hear his side of the story. The association however admitted that it is not easy to control what Amos does in his social life. The president of the BAA Thari Mooketsi said they are discussing the teenager's education, among other things, with his parents.
The Marobela star was rumoured to have signed an educational deal with an international company before the Olympics, which seems to have failed to take off.The association has also appointed a working committee to ensure that future stars do not go Amos' wayward ways.Mooketsi said it is their responsibility to contain Amos because whatever happens to him will reflect on the association.'It should however, be noted that Amos just came from nowhere and made a lot of money, something that could cause confusion to a teenager like him,' said BAA executive member Glody Dube.
In other news, the BAA executive committee told the press conference that the Botswana National Olympics Committee (BNOC) has helped them clear the P2 million debt that largely resulted from the Africa Junior Championships (AJC) Botswana hosted in 2010.
