Exactly a week after the opening of the January transfer window, the Botswana Premier League (BPL) office has not facilitated any transfer of players let alone received a request for such. The BPL office, which will be open for business on January 10th (Thursday) after the festive break, confirmed to Mmegi Sport yesterday that no team has put forward a request to register a new player. Some struggling clubs like bottom placed BR Highlanders, Mogoditshane Fighters and Prisons XI are expected to rope in some players to try and salvage their season.Defending Champions, Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Coca-Cola Champions Gaborone United are also expected to add on to the quality they have as they prepare to compete in CAF Competitions.
Chiefs start their CAF Champions League campaign against Mozambican side Maxaquene in February, while GU will be up against another Mozambican side Liga Muculmana in the Confederations Cup still next month.Meanwhile the rumour mill is awash with possible transfer targets. Perhaps the most interesting and surprising is former Zebras' and Notwane goalkeeper Kagiso Tshelametsi's link to GU. Tshelametsi has been out of the game for many seasons after sustaining a near- career ending knee injury, but surprised many coming out of retirement at the beginning of the current season and looks set to be the number one choice at Palapye side Motlakase Power Dynamos.
Still in the goalkeeping department, Lobatse teams Extension Gunners and BMC are set for a wrangle over goalkeeper Takudzwa Ndoro. Ndoro was instrumental in BMC's second place finish in the league last season before jumping ship to join Gunners at the beginning of the season. BMC replaced him with Raphael Nthwane, who was in Gunners colours previously. Many people were surprised as to why BMC let the talented Zimbabwean go.BMC meanwhile has found the going tough this season and are said to have tabled a mouth-watering offer to Ndoro but Gunners are keen to hold on to the goalkeeper who has been one of their star performers this season.Former Nico United danger man Tendai Ndoro is also said to be eyeing a return to the be MOBILE Premier League and a couple of teams have already been identified as his possible destination.
Gunners are said to be interested in the striker where he can play alongside his twin brother Takudzwa. They might however miss out on signing the player as Chiefs are also said to be interested in his services. Gunners recently parted ways with long serving assistant coach Nelson Olebile citing financial constraints.Elsewhere Selebi-Phikwe clubs are expected to make a killing on two former Chiefs players Mpoeleng Mpoeleng and Michael Mogaladi who have relocated to the copper mining town due to work commitments.
