Vee encourages sobriety through Soberholic!

Vee informed Showbiz yesterday that 'Soberholic' has been a long-term dream for him, influenced by the alarming growth of alcohol use amongst the youth.  He said as a role model, he finds it fit to be someone who students can find inspiration from and follow in his steps to a sober-minded world.

He said the Soberholic initiative will make being sober a very cool thing.'We are addicted to sober and we can think clearly. Students need to be taught the benefit of non-alcoholism. We will group together sober artists and release a theme song for the Soberholic,' he said.

The kwaito-kwasa artists mentioned artists like Mosako and BK Proctor as some who have already shown interest in the initiative. Vee will seek funding to set up Soberholic clubs in schools where there will be class ambassadors to help spread the word and instil the sober-habit in other students.

'Even drug abusers will be attached to an environment that robustly discourages alcoholism and sees it as an immoral thing for a student,' he said. He said that the Soberholic movement will set up television and radio shows to have a vast outreach, even in remote communities. He said the movement will promote edutainment and make being sober a very cool thing to be.

When the initiative starts, a Soberholic show will be launched at the Game City rooftop recurring every month with prizes to be won, free entrance and no alcohol allowed inside. Vee said: 'Big artists from outside will also be invited to help educate and encourage our youth on the day of the launch.  We plan to launch at the Game City rooftop and it will be an alcohol-free show with prizes to be won.'

Vee said he wishes to question KBL on what it does to protect students from consuming alcohol. He said everyone is welcome to join Soberholic as long as they stick to water and soft drinks. He said they will be promoting the atmosphere of professionalism amongst performers, a sense of responsibility and being exemplary.

'The reason why some of us can put on outstanding performances is because we do it sober-minded and we do not get tired easily. An artist should respect his work, never to step on stage while drunk. Looking back at my past life and now, I can give others the best of advice and that is to be a Soberholic,' Vee explained.
