Controversy surrounding the 2012/2013 Boosta Bash is reported to be as a result of some 4,000 counterfeit tickets that were fraudulently sold by unknown culprits. The organiser, Seabelo Modibe, is quoted saying this cost organisers approximately P400,000 in lost ticket sales.
The show's celebrated Tsaya Thobane artist, Dr Vom, says he will no longer take part in the bash. He says this is because the amount he is paid is lower each year and because of late payments.
'This December I was on demand for bookings, but I disappointed all my clients and dedicated my time to the Boosta Bash, only not to be paid on time. This was my last year with the bash, I won't be performing at the bash anymore,' he affirmed.
The artists, who announced his shift from singing dikhwaere to gospel music recently, explained that this year's Boost Bash was disorganised. He said that in their efforts to upgrade the event's standards, the organisers set up two stages; one for live performances and the other for backtrack artists. Unfortunately, backtrack artist's stage lights didn't work which really disappointed revellers.
Dr Vom said although he was one of the paid artists, the organisers have promised to pay everyone eventually. For his part, Modibe lambasted some artists for being inconsiderate and too quick to rush to the media. He said they have chosen to ignore the good that has come from the bash in the many years they were featured. He said he finds it quite 'adolescent' for some performers to forget what he has done for them and their music careers.
Modibe said that Dr Vom has no authority to declare that he won't be a part of the Boost Bash anymore when no one has ever called him to be a part of it.
'My question is, what is it that motivated him to express that he is leaving? No one had called him in the first place - he came begging on his own. I fail to understand his frustrations because he came to my house and we paid him,' he said.
Modibe further expressed that he is working with his partner, HHP, to try and pay the remaining P25,000 to remaining unpaid artists.
