3dimensional cinema opens in Gaborone

 

Popularly known as 3D, the technology in movies uses a particular filming technology that enhances the illusion of depth in images. The technology used behind 3D has been enhanced to give a sense of true depth as well as a feel that the objects in the 3D movies almost real and extending out of the screen.

The New Capitol Cinema, which is the first of its kind in the country, opened its doors to cinema goers in the afternoon for the 14:30 movie at Masa in the new Gaborone Central Business District (CBD). Speaking to Showtime, the cinema assistant marketing manager Chengetani Batlegang said that the response they have received from Batswana has been overwhelming. He said that people have been streaming into their office to book tickets for the movies, especially the 3D ones. He said that for now they are playing Wreck It Ralph, which is an animated 3D movie.

Batlegang said that the cinema has five cinemas, two of which play 3D movies and 2D movies only, then one that plays 2D movies only and the other remaining two which use the traditional projectors  common at local cinemas.He further said that Batswana should come and experience watching 3D movies because it is 'a new and different experience. He said that 3D offers a different new feel and the movie quality is in High Definition (HD) hence why the clean and clearer look. According to Batlegang the cinema has invested in 3D that can be reused unlike the normal ones that are used and discarded after the movie is done.

'Here we use Dolby Digital glasses that are top notch and we have different sets for kids and adults,' he said. He added that the glasses give a proper view from wherever one is sitting in the cinema hall. Batlegang further said that the cinema would not run out of 3D movies to show despite the fact that not all movies are made in 3D. He said that the 3D is slowly but surely gaining momentum hence why there will always be material to screen.The 3D tickets cost P75, followed by 2D at P50 and traditional ones at P45.
