Unruly students plague Tlogatloga CJSS

Speaking at a prize giving ceremony on Friday, Matlhape said the pastoral department is inundated with complaints of 'behaviour that is a menace to both victims and members of the community. Consequently, pastoral teachers spend lots of time in offices resolving cases while they should be in classrooms teaching,' Matlhape said.

She told parents that some students deliberately do not wear prescribed uniform.'Uniform is a form of identity and it instills a sense of belonging in children and it cultivates discipline and seriousness in students towards their core business,' said Matlhape.

'It is therefore unfortunate if parents overlook this aspect because it overshadows the objective for the children coming to school,' she said, pleading with parents to check that the children wear proper school uniform.

She asked for precautions towards zero infection of HIV/AIDS. 'We still experience some dropouts due to pregnancy. This is a manifestation of unprotected sex.

Matlhape said it is disturbing to realise how children become vulnerable to contracting HIV/AIDS.

'I strongly believe that our being available for the children and giving them the necessary support shall go a long way in shaping their future,' she said.

As if giving parents a glimpse of their unruliness, the students had to be begged to keep quiet.

Giving a keynote address, Maokaneng Bontshetse, the director of Futbol newspaper, told the students that they were living in a society of opportunities that are coupled with challenges.

'Sexual intercourse at a tender age is the cause of the ever increasing HIV/AIDS. For you, the solution is abstinence,' he said.

'It takes a special breed of people to build a nation. Education to me is not what you know. Education is what you do with what you know,' he said.

Lemogang Phatsimo, Kamogelo Thutoetsile and Omphile Basima were awarded as best overall students in Forms One, Two and Three.
