DJ Colastraw shines in SA

Speaking to Mmegi from Johannesburg, the talented DJ says he has been busy in the studio both in music and acting having taken advantage of the thriving show business in that country. The ambitious DJ recently signed a mix CD release deal with a British records company called Dazzle Events.

He says Dazzle Events offered him a deal to produce 13 UK House hits to be released this festive season.  The album will be called Sound Surgery, featuring house tracks from the world's most famous producers, namely DJ Carea, Santonio Echols (from Detroit) and Alix Richmond from the UK.

'The CD is going to rock everyone this coming festive season and all tracks are clean, thumping and are of high quality because it will be internationally produced.  I have a feeling this will be one of my best projects yet.'

DJ Colastraw has also landed a cameo role on South Africa Venda drama Muvhango, which airs on SABC 2 from Monday to Thursday.  In Muvhango he plays the role of a businessman but he says he acts on a part-time basis.  He reckons he always had ambitions of venturing into acting. He says only time will tell if he can penetrate South Africa's competitive acting industry.

He released a house compilation earlier this year, which received huge airplay on radio stations, both in Botswana and South Africa.

HOUSE ADMIN volume 1 is a collaboration between DJ Colastraw and Nnjadini (former Backstage and Generations actor.  He says the album produced both in Botswana and South Africa was done by established producers like, TRONIX former Mzambia's producer in his debut album who, also did Arthur Mafokate's first album.

Other producers are DJ Manace, Aasen Reikeletseng, DJ Mavusana (who produced a couple of songs in DJ Mbuso's PHEZULU album) and DJ Nico (from Botswana).  DJ Colastraw produced some of the tracks in the album.

'It's now the most sought after album by Durban radio stations and Gauteng youth radio, JOZI FM.  It would have been nicer if it generated the same impact in Botswana but because I am studying and living in Johannesburg, I could not effectively promote the album.'

DJ Colastraw made his mark locally after producing Club Chisa 1 and 2. The track such as Time after Time was a big hit and proved that the young lad from Palapye was born to entertain.

Last year he produced a 12-track CD titled Royal Ghetto Grooves with hits like Take Me To The Clouds Above.  The album was collaboration between him and local deejays DJ Roots, DJ Double H, Zops, DJ Phats, and DJ S-Wang, who also helped co-produce the album.
