Tshelang Masisi dies

Masisi died at Bokamoso Private Hospital in Mmopane near Gaborone on Wednesday morning where he had been hospitalised for some time. The Deputy Executive Secretary of Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), Lee Lesetedi, said although he did not have official confirmation from Masisi's family, he had heard that Masisi had died.

However, by 5pm yesterday government confirmed the MPs passing. Meanwhile, social networks went viral with news of the death of the amiable MP who was decidedly popular with his electorate in Francistown West.Masisi, who was a native of Moshupa but had made Francistown his home, was diagnosed with a kidney condition more than a decade ago. In 2000, he received a kidney donation from his wife. He later formed the Masisi Organ Foundation whose aim was to raise awareness about kidney diseases and money for sufferers.

The MP instantly welcomed Section 20 of the Public Health Bill of 2012 that several MPs regarded as the key to the success of Botswana's medical school by laying the basis the removal, control and donation of human tissues, organs and cadavers for academic research. In May last year, Masisi and his wife were involved in a near fatal car accident on the A1 Highway near Palapye when they were travelling to Francistown.Masisi has been an MP since 1999 after defeating the then MP for Francistown West, Vain Mamela of Botswana Congress Party (BCP).He was the Councillor for Tatitown Ward before he became an MP.
