Another commando injured in parachute accident

Army spokesperson Colonel Tebo Dikole says the 40-year old sergeant fractured his leg during landing. The soldier is currently under the care of medical doctors and is reported to be showing signs of recovery.'The training was related to preparations of BDF Day Celebrations,' Dikole told Mmegi. He said while safety was of paramount importance to all BDF operations, members of the BDF were constantly aware of the risks associated with the military profession.

The sergeant has been with the BDF since 1997. His injury comes a few weeks after another long serving member of the commando unit was injured during training at Thebephatswa Air Base. Both men are at Bokamoso Private Hospital.Mmegi inquiries have established that the cause of parachute accidents at the BDF is use of old equipment and human error related to negligence by some senior officers who tend to disregard safety suggestions from junior officers.
