Masire opposes lease of Banyana Farms to foreigners

Masire told the Parliamentary Select Committee investigating irregularities at Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) last week that the development is annoying because the farm should be run by Batswana.  'It is annoying. I run a farm in Gantsi and it is the same as the one run by whites. Batswana will be annoyed,' said the elderly state man.Banyana is a ranch of about 149,000ha near the border with South Africa. Masire is considered one of the most successful farmers in the country and he revealed as much during his testimony. He has been in the farming business even before Botswana gained independence in 1966.
