Thobo continues to shine brightly

At just 26 years of age, this young man from Lobatse is  one of the most recognisable faces in the local entertainment industry today.  He is easy to talk to, with a calm strength a lot of his peers lack. Kerekang describes himself during his childhood days as that kid who grew up very inquisitive and driven. He said:  ' I used to ask a lot of questions as a kid; so much so that at times it was irritating. And I remember that I used to be very talkative, I suppose I always had that lawyer instinct in me from a very young age,' he says

Ruxion first made his appearance on the entertainment scene when he was 15 years old when he joined the talent search show called Sprite Rap Activity Jam. He made it to the top five of the best rappers. 'My love for music has always been there since I got rapping skills through my cousin Kabo Kerekang who is the president of Empire Records.  Through him, I discovered that I have a strong passion for music and the competition proved just that,' he said with a smile.

Battling it out with other young rappers grew Kerekang's confidence even further and made him more determined to chase his dream. It is through this competition that he met up with yet another talented musician with whom he later decided to form with. 'I met up with Thuto in high school and after realizing that we were both gifted, we decided to join hands and form a group that we named Magosi,' he says.

Magosi became an instant hit and released a self titled album named 'Thuto le Thobo.' It featured  hits that many loved including Move, Reetsa, Ditiro and Mageba just to name a few.Kerekang did not let fame get to his head and he also did exceptionally well in academics too. Upon completion of high school at Gaborone Secondary School (GSS) in 2005, he was accepted to the University of Botswana (UB) to pursue a degree in Law (LLB) and he graduated as one of the top 5 best achievers.

'I never let my music career get in the way of my studies, I was always up to date with my school work, some of my class mates even asked for notes from me.  Interestingly, I always had my files with me if I were to perform in some areas around the country, so I always studied when I found the time,' he reminisces

He says he strongly believes that life is a balancing act and  if one manages their time well, they are capable of doing and being whatever they want in life. Today Kerekang is doing well as an attorney at Duma Boko &Co.  He works as a litigation lawyer who deals with both civil and criminal cases. He said: 'I joined them in mid-2011 and the experience so far is overwhelming since this career is not a walk in the path- I always have to be mentally and physically prepared, I live the 5 P's which are; Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance.'

Lately the talented young man has been working at many prestigious events as a master of ceremony (MC)- another talent that Ruxion has added to the list of his many. He says he enjoys being an MC because it is interactive and gives him the opportunity to be in control and mingle with people. Kerekang seems to be doing well for himself and impressing many because he will be the MC at the Miss Botswana Fashion Show this Friday. 'This is a show not be missed. I am going to do my best to entertain the crowd,' he says

Even though he has not been in the music scenes lately, Kerekang says he might be working on a project that he will release as a solo artist and people should be on the lookout for that.'Being a lawyer is a serious profession and it comes with it certain obligations and rules, so I have to uphold and respect them. So my music career has been put on hold, but that does not mean I have left it completely because I am working on something that might soon be out; as I pointed out earlier I have a passion for music,' he says.
