According to Charles Brewer, DHL managing director, in addition to its seven service points in the country, the company is targeting to have at least 40 service points in Botswana and this involves the contribution of SMEs.Brewer explained that they are still negotiating with relevant stakeholders such as postal services and individual service providers in major towns and villages; adding that they have already signed nine deals.
Briefing the media on Friday, Brewer said DHL sees Botswana as a strategic business hub in Africa driven by the small and medium enterprises (SMEs). 'Despite the current global economic uncertainty, DHL expects the African region to deliver,' said Brewer. He described Botswana as an attractive market for DHL as its stable economic growth rate makes it a viable country for global investment.
'The opportunity is for us to expand our footprint within the country and service semi-urban and rural areas so that anyone, from a student to a small business can access our network,' said Brewer. He also highlighted that there are hundreds of SMMEs in Botswana and DHL needs to provide easy access to them.
'Our company is committed to becoming their provider of choice and as part of that journey we will provide even more access points across Botswana,' he said. Brewer further said that beyond the expansion of their retail footprint, DHL's top priority is centered around people development and employee engagement. DHL has expertise in international express, air and ocean freight, road and rail transportation, contract logistics and international mail services, it has about 3000 service points in Africa.
